Session Structure

Session length and frequency vary by service and relationship needs

  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy is typically scheduled every other week at a consistent day and time. Sessions are generally 60–90 minutes and follow a structured approach to support ongoing progress.
  • Discernment Counseling sessions are longer and more intensive, with the first session lasting two hours and follow-up sessions lasting 90 minutes to two hours. These sessions may be scheduled more frequently over a shorter period of time if the couple prefers.
  • Divorce counseling and co-parenting work are scheduled more flexibly, depending on the needs of the situation. Session length and frequency are tailored to support communication, decision-making, and planning.

Fees & Insurance

Fees & Session Length

The fee for all services other than Gottman Method Couples Therapy is $300 per hour, with session fees prorated in 15-minute increments based on the length of each appointment after the first 60-minutes.

Gottman Method Couples Therapy follows a structured format with session lengths between 60 to 75 minutes. Sessions are designed to begin and end within this range.

The fee for 90-minute Gottman Method Couples Therapy sessions is higher than a simple pro-rata extension of the 60-minute session rate. When a session extends to 90 minutes, it typically reflects a level of clinical intensity or complexity that requires sustained, heightened intervention beyond what is typical for standard sessions. The higher fee acknowledges the substantial additional effort and energy required to manage and facilitate these exceptionally demanding sessions.

Gottman Session Fees:

  • 60 minutes: $300
  • 75 minutes: $375
  • 90 minutes: $525
Insurance

The relationship counseling I provide is not covered by health insurance. Insurance companies operate from a medical model that requires a diagnosable mental health condition and an identified patient for reimbursement. Relationship challenges, while often deeply impactful, do not meet these criteria for coverage.

In relationship counseling, neither partner is the patient; the relationship itself is the focus. Each person is treated as an equal, and both partners are supported and challenged accordingly. This approach does not align with insurance requirements for reimbursement.

Additionally, assigning a mental health diagnosis when it may not be clinically appropriate can have unintended consequences. A diagnosis becomes part of a permanent medical record and, in some cases, may impact future insurance coverage, life or disability insurance applications, or how care is approached in other settings.

This approach allows for greater privacy and a more balanced process without the need to label one partner or limit the focus of the work.
